Dear Movement Mentors,
Great work logging nearly 1000 miles as of this week! Keep up the amazing work! You'll see our map below in addition to the amazing places we've seen like the site of the world's largest impact crater! Pen Pal letters are due to be mailed to Daniels on November 15th. Remember, this year we've asked that you handle the mailing. I'll email the address in a note to follow. Watch for news coverage of the West Valley Business and Marketing Class as they raise money to help FitKids Feed a Friend at Daniels' Primary School. To learn more about the fund-raiser see: http://www.fitkidsusa.org/wvfund.htm Our partnership with Daniels Public Primary School has been facilitated through the Roger Federer Foundation and IMBEWU.org. For complete information about FitKids and these other wonderful organizations, please visit us online at: FitKidsUSA.org Great job running! Thanks for being a part of the FitKids Team! Kathleen |

| November, 8 Mileage - 833.25

Great work FitKids! We have traveled nearly 1000 miles through South Africa, Lesotho and back to the South Africa. We are now in Johannesburg and closing in on the capital city of Pretoria. Look below for some amazing images of what we've seen so far! |

The Cheetah is the world's fastest land animal and can go from 0 - 70 miles per hour in 3 seconds! That's faster than most of the world's fastest cars. The Cheetah is not yet endangered, but it is listed as VULNERABLE due to hunters and herdsmen in Africa.

| Vredefort Crater - World's Largest Impact Crater

Can you imagine an asteroid that measured 6 miles wide? Scientists estimate that to be the size of the asteroid that crashed into the earth at Vredefort, Free State, South Africa 2 BILLION years ago! The "dent", known as a CRATER, is 186 miles wide!

| Soweto

Soweto is southwest of Johannesburg. Nelson Mandela lived in a humble home beginning in 1957. Soweto is known for the infamous riots in 1976 when school children protested a new law requiring that all education be conducted in Africaans instead of native tribal languages. | Johannesburg, South Africa

South Africa's largest city is Johannesburg with a population of over 3 million people. The area was inhabitied by the Buntu people, but when European settlers discovered gold in the area there was a "Gold Rush" much like the one in the Western United States. The city grew by leaps and bounds beginning in the 1880's and it is a major center for commerce in Africa.
